I've never used one of these transmitters, do they work and sound alright in a vehicle?

I have one and they sound ok, only because its hard to find a radio station frequency with no static.

They mostly suck. The iTrip is probably the worst. The ones that are powered by the car lighter port are better. It also depends on where you are. If you live in LA where all radio stations have some junk broadcast on them, then it won't be as good as in the middle of nowhere. Either way, if you have a tape deck, the tape adapters are your best option. Griffin makes one that lets you control the iPod with the tape deck controls.
