You do realize that the royal family are where they are because their ancestors were the best at murdering and deceit. The royalty needs to be removed and all their possessions (taken from the people) need to get taken from them. There is nothing good about the royalty, they have no benefit for society, in fact they are only a burden on society.

No Way!!!!! I think that being ruled by someone isn't fair. One opinion for millions of people just wont ever work. Government works better because there are more matters discussed by more people. Royalty, and having ranks passed down from relatives isn't what this world needs at all!

In a sense, we'll always have royalty, whether in the form of crowned heads or super diva movie stars. There's always been a class of people who do better than others, who like to flaunt it, and no matter what they're called, they always exist, maybe to be some sort of beacon to those who are have nots who wish they were extreme haves. So, I don't think we need them, but even so, they still are going to be around, strutting they're stuff.

When monarchs are figureheads rather than political figures, they can be immensely useful as role models. A king and/or queen provide strong role models and can stand as symbols of national pride.
However, as a political system, NO. Although you would think that when government is passed down from parent to child, the government would improve -every parent wants the best for their kid- there are inherent, huge problems. For one, the monarchs are so far divorced from those they are supposed to govern, it's a useless idea. Second, there's nothing to stop a king from abusing the country's resources to do whatever he wants. Third, autocracies are bad. Period. Concentrating absolute power in one man who thinks he's God is bad.

Sounds to me, reading these contributions that many people have no respect for themselves. How then can they have any respect for the Head of State?
Yes we do need royalty, it is part of what makes us a nation. Whatever it is about royalty we need it, it suits our culture, our identity , otherwise we would have changed our constitution well before now. I just love it when the younger (re-invented)generation come on here, with their bland unintelligble answers, "naw, we don't need em, get rid!"

Yes we do! Apart from the tourist side, the "main" royals bring a lot of business to the country, which means money being invested. Anyway, would you rather have a President? I think both France and America show this does not work if the wrong people are in, so called, charge!

I think that the continued existence of royalty (among other things) proves that humankind is still very early in its development as a species.

It's just a tradition, we don't need them. But we only pay them like 50p a year each. I wonder how much money they bring to the country because they are a tourist attraction. I don't see why people have such an issue with it, hardly any of our earnings go to them. If they stood down they would still be enormously wealthy. But the answer is no we don't need them.

It is the only thing we have left that is British and the only thing between people like Thatcher and Blair getting control.
One day they will call on their followers to put this country back on an even keel again and when that happens I hope to be the first to respond.
God Save The Queen.

Sorry, but it is a fact and we have to accept it as a reality. OK, let see if we vote for not have a royalty. What should happen?!? They are don't have to drop dead instantly - that's for sure (God, keep them from that) and... it is a good to have a tradition, a good tradition
