I have an eMachine T5010 (512 meg, 2.93 pent 4, 200 gig hard drive).
Gateway 19" widescreen monitor.
I have had it for just over a year...
I do alot of music burning and DVD burning.
Burning music is fast.
To burn a DVD is like watching grass grow.
My computer has been on for about 12-16 hours per day.
I have had no problems at all.
Video is DVD or better.
6.1 Dolby is crisp and clear (I added two 2.1 w/sub systems and center channel).
Virtual Memory is very forgiving. Always there.
I strongly recommend eMachines to beginners as well as "Pro's."

eMachine is owned by Gateway, mainly for them to have an entry level market machine. They are not all that great spec-wise usually. While they do have some higher grade machines, some of the core parts are still pretty bad.
For a long time their boards were made by TriGem, which is a horrible manufacturing company. They had capacitors blow, and just other horrible motherboard malfunctions.
Mainly, they are a cheap computer, put together with cheap parts. The best way to make it reliable is to change a few core parts, the power supplies are usually the worst. But then again, any computer can be the worst if it isn't treated correctly. I had an eMachine for 3 or so years, and really only upgraded because I wanted to play games.
I have been working in the computer industry for at least 10 years, and unfortunately it still proves that it's best to spend the money on building your own custom PC, unless you really can't afford it, then stay away from the Celeron processor and you'll be alright.

The old adage "you get what you pay for" is very applicable to e-machines.
If you only use a computer an hour or two a day to surf the internet, do pictures from your digital camera, and type things using a program like Word, then it will probably work just fine for you.
If you spend a lot of time on your computer or do more advanced things, you might want to look into a higher-quality brand.

As MIS for six colleges I purchased hundreds of workstations over a period of several years. E-machines were far and away the worst, most unreliable pieces of crap I've ever seen. Every single one of them was eventually thrown away. The cost of maintaining/fixing them was more than the price of a new, decent workstation. The only thing they're good for is a boat anchor.
And I'm being kind. You don't want to know what I really think of them.

Um eMachines are large in case you opt for to easily browse the internet and that is it, yet do no longer purchase an eMachines with severe expectations. i'd actually help you %. a sturdy pc and help you get it very inexpensive in case you e mail me your funds and a short clarification of why you want a pc (i.e. opt for to do pictures, use it for gaming, leisure, artwork, college, and so on). in case you've self belief your cousin and he hasn't filled it with viruses or some thing by technique of downloading junk in spite of the undeniable fact that and also you're happy with a effortless pc you'd be fantastic. That being stated, if the eMachines has software on it that make it more beneficial helpful, extraordinarily in case you merely want a very effortless pc. The get admission to point Microsoft place of work 2007 is $149.ninety 9 merely by technique of itself. If it has abode windows XP you're fantastic, yet when it has Vista be particular to change it to abode windows 7 Starter version no matter if that is too slow. This particular version of abode windows makes effortless computers fly alongside and that i have positioned it on many older computers and the vendors are all very much shocked by technique of ways a lot more beneficial that is. For the eMachines, I agree $one hundred max for a used computing gadget.

when you buy an e-machine, to make it good....you will need to replace these parts....
Motherboard, Processor, RAM, and PowerSupply....you will also need to install a video card because Onboard graphics sucks.
At this rate...you might as well buy a hard drive, a DVD burner, and a case...put it all together...and you will have a Good computer.

Buy the Emachine. They are good reliable computers and good customer service. Dell customer service is unreliable.

They are terrible machines. If you want something cheap that will give you your money's worth, get a Mac mini.
