I know Ohio University requires essays for some majors, but I want to write one to better my chances of getting in.It doesn't really specify on the site if we can write one and if the topic can be about anything.

I know the essay is mentioned as optionalon the application, but it will leave a better impression of you with one than without one. I would also recommend doing the optional items such as a teacher recommendation or two along with any awards or honors you have earned in high school. The colleges and universities are looking for things that make you stand out from the other applicants and completing the optional items can help make a great impression on them since it takes time. Good luck!

always write the essay if there's an option to do so. If they don't specify a topic, you can write it like a personal statement talking about why you want to study what you want to study at that particular university (OU), what you're passionate about (that is related to you wanting higher education), that kind of thing.
