Looks like the circus (for him, at least) happens right now, with the press fighting each other to gain a few words from him - which they will edit to suit their needs. And what about the public? The fact that he 'knows' the women who were murdered will make a certain group want to 'punish' him merely for that fact (which has nothing to do with their 'christianity'). Perhaps he should get in touch with Colin Stagg...who also has experience of public hate.

With police and tabloids in cahoots, Colin Stagg became a sacrificial lamb...not only was Mr. Stagg was made to suffer for his innocence for years after by members of the public who still accused him of the murder - but Rachel Nickells family also.

Just to clarify Tom Stephens isn't technically free. He was not released with his name cleared. He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. To be fair, I think Mr.Stephens was an attention hungry man. He wasted no time contacting the media in many forms to give them his story, which inevitably put him in the frame. I beleive that he should now keep his head down and ignore the media. I don't think this will happen and I'm sure that one of the papers will have paid for his story. Saying that no one is aware of the terms of his bail.

I think everyone is entitled to a fair hearing, but in the country in which we live most assume 'there's no smoke without fire' and there is no longer innocent until proven guilty. I think this time the media should pay the price. As I said before no names should have been released until the point of charging someone with the murders. Even then the police can still get it wrong. I agree it's almost like the Colin Stagg situation.

Mr Stephens has the right to his freedom if he is innocent. Of course he is glad to be free from jail, but I suggest he is not free from the pointing of fingers and his history. If the police have the right man for the murders then hopefully there is some reason to rejoice. People can be very cruel when their hackles are up. It's a pity they don't channel their mischief into a more worthwhile cause. Like the homeless, terrorism, injustice etc.
