They are exactly the same thing, only written differently. They are even pronounced the same--"X" is the greek symbol for Christ.

Xmas comes from the mid 16th century. X is used to symbol Christ (X=Christ during that time). Most people say "Christmas" nowadays because it's more proper and used often in songs and carols and on Christmas cards and stockings. Some think "Xmas" isn't a good way to say "Christmas" because instead of using "X" as Christ, why not say "Christ" directly to represent Christ? Christmas is proper nowadays and Xmas isn't seen on cards or carols anymore. It's not even a good way to pronounce it.

well they are basically the same thing only Xmas is a shorten term b/c X=cross which resembles Jesus Christ therefore the Christ in Christmas is the same as the X in Xmas!

I think the X is the Greek letter chi, which is how Christ is spelled in Greek. I think it is chi rho. If you have ever seen the P with a X through it, as a religious symbol, that is the same thing. It is not really taking 'Christ' out of Christmas, just shortening it.

Ignorant liberals who are athiest replace CHRIST with X.

Because they want to take Christmas away from Christimas and make it secular. When infact, CHRIST is the whole reason for CHRISTmas!!

I thought it meant the same thing. I thought that the X was just an abbreviation.

Christmas is for those whom will have the Spirit of the Lord with them and X-mas is for those who don't believe.
