Rosie has some wonderful qualities and is articulate in sharing her views with the world; but as with all of us, her Achilles heel shows in her choice of causes at times and her view of when she is or isn't being attacked.

Bottom line, no one really can be "the" spokesperson for the modern American Woman but the individual woman, because it has to be her own truth.

Any average American person watching her show new she was gay (not that it mattered then or does now)however she has taken it upon herself to be outspoken in the name of all people hoping her fame and sexual orientation will be taken as the truth because she is a gay woman who is out of the closet and is a celebrity. I personally don't like her and never found her to be funny just hypocritical. She does not represent the modern American woman in my eyes because the MAW WORKS for her money and takes care of her children without the help of a personal assistant. The more she speaks the more I don't like her.

If by "modern American woman" you mean

an American woman who is unwilling to be subjugated by men who:

do not value our existence;

who will not value our abilities to make significant contributions to our society;

who will create laws which undermine our God given birth right to dignity and fairness;

men who didn't understand that by burning our bras we were only asking to be treated with fairness and dignity within our society, and in so asking we were not asserting their unimportance, nor suggesting that we wanted to exclude our fathers, husbands and sons, but only to be viewed with more regard by them.

If this is what you mean by modern American woman, even then Rosie O'Donnell couldn't be the spokesperson, because she is merely a representative of a schism (minority) within the American female population.

Most of us still place value on having loving and productive relationships with the men in our society, although we don't want to be treated like second-class citizens.

No more than Charles Manson (or Steve P above) is the spokesperson for the American male.

No she's not. She certainly doesn't represent my views, nor my grown daughter's. I happen to think I'm a pretty modern American woman. She needs to take a step back and think before she opens her mouth. She's too divisive and vitriolic.

I hope not. Most of the things she says are not thought out and do not agree with the majority of women.

not unless the "modern American woman" is a fat, ugly, obnoxious lesbian who will say anything to get attention and then cry "bigotry" whenever someone says something back.
