The legend is old in the deep south and I have talked to some very credible wittnesses. If you have seen one please tell me the location, time of day/night, and distance.

I am from rural central Alabama. I saw one on my way home one night with a friend about 10 p.m. in the summer in 1995. We got a close up view. It ran across the road in front of the car. The road separated two pastures. Actually, I asked a wildlife expert about it a few weeks ago and he said that he has heard of other reports of panthers in that area, but noone had any physical proof of panthers in that area.

My father claims to have killed one as a teenager during the 60s in south Alabama. The community thought that it was a coyote killing small animals and the occasional calf or baby goat, until he shot it. His family and a lot of people who lived in the surrounding area support his story, and there was supposedly a newspaper article about it (the newspaper doesn't have archives because of a fire in the 70s so I can't verify).
Sometimes I don't know whether to believe him or not because he has a lot of preposterous stories, but this one may be true due to the amount of people corroborating his story. I didn't see it myself (several years before I was born), so that's all I can say on the matter.

I once saw four of them, they were putting up posters for a Black Panther rally on the north side of Milwaukee Wis. in the early 70's.

I've never seen one, but they say there's one in the Lake District, and on the Yorkshire Moors!
