I've met a lot of humor-impaired people. I suspect it has to do with being raised in a household where either the parents had no sense of humor or else the child was the butt of cruel "jokes" that were meant to hurt.
Or maybe their humor gene is just recessive.

I once worked in a facility for mentally disabled people, so disabled that they did not have any language. But I noticed that they had a sense of humor, in a way - they would smile and even laugh at sudden surprises [to them] as long as these surprises were innocent and harmless....
So if even severely mentally disabled people could laugh, ordinary people must have at least the same amount of "sense of humor." The problem really is that there are people who don't have a very "developed" sense of humor - they just don't get irony, they don't get sarcasm.
For example, David Pogue is a technology reviewer for the NY Times and he had a piece about Windows Vista copying Mac OS X. He said no, windows didn't copy Mac with Vista. See, on the Mac you go up to the right hand corner for the icon, whereas in Vista, you go to the left hand corner....people wrote in saying "Hey, stupid, that's practically the same thing, wadda mean they didn't copy?" They just didn't get it that Pogue was tongue-in-cheek in his column.
So some people are limited with the kind of humor they can recognize, but they do have some kind of sense of humor.

I don't see why not. In the case of a sociopath, the individual lacks all sense of morality. The ability to recognize and enjoy humor is part of our genetic heritage. It would stand to reason that this ability occurs in greater and lesser degrees in various individuals.
On the other hand, if your idea of humor is pushing the bride into the pool at her wedding reception, well then maybe you are the one that needs a humor tuneup.

Well humour is different for everybody. It depends a lot on your life experiences and so on. Be careful when joking in front of someone who is very different to you.

Some have no sense of humor perhaps. Or they just don't appreciate your sense of humor. People have different levels of what they find to be funny! God bless****

If this is happening to you as much as it seems to be you aren't as funny as you think, and insulting someone and then thinking it will be OK just by saying "It was just a joke" will get you nowhere.
