I read in my child development book that this week (week 10), a baby may recognize her name. I have not seen that, but she does seem to respond to "daddy." Is that possible, or could it just be my tone she's responding to?

10 weeks? I've never heard of that. I would say give her a couple more months. My babies usually recognized their names by 4 to 6 months. As far as knowing what you're saying, 12 to 18 months. I have 18 month old twins. They can't really SAY much, but if you ask my daughter where their sippy cups are, she'll go get them. I've even seen her run to their room, crawl under the bed, and emerge with both of them! Same for my little boy. He's addicted to cars and balls. If you ask him to throw the ball to you, he will. My now 3 year old was the same way. My older one was an early talker, so I don't really know how well he understood, before he learned to talk himself.

Anyway, around 6 months or so, she'll start to recognize some words. She'll know her name. If you say Momma, or Dadda, she'll probably know who you're talking about.

Every child is different. I do think it's the tone in your voice that she's responding to but unfortunately you'll never know. Around four months my son would look my way if I mentioned his name. It was neat to see him do it. Then at seven months he learned what "no" meant. He learns new things every day which is amazing! I'm sure she's picking up on your tone OR she could possibly know what you're talking about.

depends how often you talk to her, and if you talk to her like a person and not baby.
