Why not let yourself go and do an abstract piece. One that stands by itself. I did an abstract and got caught up with it being what it wanted to be. Not what I wanted it to be. So enjoy that or you could possibly do something that is related to the military. I know alot of guys and gals coming back and they also need abit of inspiration themselves after being over in Iraq. You could show your piece at any Military Base. Some have art galleries and have shows that might help give you some inspiration too. One photograph I saw that really hit me, was of a soldiers pair of boots, with his (I think it was an M-16) at the foot of them representing that soldier that was killed in action.

go on a mountain, along a river, or ocean...anyplace near where you live that is in close contact with the nature...sit there and meditate...listen to what nature is telling you...stat there as long as it takes to remove your mental roadblock. then pretend you lost your arms in a terrible boat accident......wake up and find out you still have those two arms to use....give thanks to the Creator and start sculpting again...

first of all pick a material that yu think you might use then decide on an appoxiamate size and then start looking at the material you are ging to use by then y are half way to getting statred anyway and that is when an dea of what to dois most likely to attach itself to that material and give you a bit of a road sign as to what to do good luck 3-D work is always just a bit tricky

i'm a grandpa, and kids are always inspirational to me. presently i am planning out a metal piece of the grim reaper (i found a scyth at a garage sale and got an inspiration) possibly holding the head of Santa Clause and doing a victory dance...(i feel a bit screwgey this season, what can i say?)
children being children, at play, at school studying (and wanting to play), kids with pets...pets, those things seem always to be hot, and people stop and look at them every time.

Try sculpting yourself, I find it very challenging and fun. I did a scupyure of myself, just my head out of clay.

hands are the hardest - try sculpting hands since the way they are placed can say alot, also it will show that you are up for a harder challenge. ; )

Perhaps you should look to the classical era for inspiration. You may want to try this gallery that specializes in replicas of classical sculptures. http://www.giustgallery.com/
