I see divisions in the women's wear for all different body shapes, but I have yet to find a clear definition for the difference between "Misses" and "Juniors." Is Juniors meant to be teenage clothing, while Misses is adult clothing? That, of course, would be a difference in style. Or is it meant to be a classification of size, with Misses being the same style as Juniors but a wider or taller cut?

Thanks for any insights.

Both of your answers would be correct, but I'd say the classification of size is slightly more accurate. Juniors' clothing comes in odd numbers, where Misses' clothing, like normal women's clothes, come in even numbers. Juniors' clothes are more slim, long and lean cut - it's hard to find a pair of Juniors' jeans that will accomodate a normal woman's butt and hips (I'm not talking about super-ample butt and hips that require Apple Bottoms). Also, I find that most "Petite" clothing is found in the Misses section.

Personally, I find that the Misses clothes have always fit me far better than any Juniors ever did - even when I was a teenager. I was never stick-straight enough for Juniors clothes to fit me well.

Yes, the style is likely to be different as well; the Juniors section will usually only consist of what is popular and trendy right now. It's very difficult to find the basic, necessary building blocks (like the perfect pair of black slacks or a well-constructed cashmere sweater) in the Juniors section.

You would probobly be a size xs or small in petite clothing. Petite means under the average height for women, which is 5'4 so you are petite. I am as well. Petite would fit better in the arms and legs and all around from regular clothing but at times it is hard to find. Juniors is one step up from girls. They pretty much have the same stuff and fit the same size, just more clothes teens and early 20's appeal more towards. Misses is the same as womens pretty much Girls range in size from 6X which is for probobly more 4-6 year olds, all the way up to a size 16, which according to most height size charts only goes threw age 13, but hey if it fits you why not buy it? I am 5'0 as well and a little bigger, but it fits and im 20! Most 14-16's goes through the height of 5'2, so you would probobly be able to wear girls clothing as well.

What Is Juniors Clothing

Yes, junior's are designed more for teens, while women's are designed for women with a more mature figure. Junior's clothes usually have a slimmer fit and don't have as much room for curves and bust (in shirts). I'm 15, but I'm already a C cup, and I definitely see the difference in how they fit. I only wear a small or medium in women's, but I need a large or XL in junior's because they are so tight in the chest area compared to women's.

jessica is right- jrs. is cut differently then misses- for example: jeans in jrs will have a slimmer leg and lower waist, unless the tag specifies differently, the style itself might be a wide leg jean or higher waist, etc, you can measure the waist to the crotch to see the differences in missy's and jrs ( and in jrs itself to know how low waisted the jean is), also jackets , coats, dresses will have a smaller fit in jrs compared to missy's but you do not have to be a jr to wear jr clothing jr clothing is also considered trendy clothing and any age can wear it as long as you can fit it! of course you don't want to look like ur trying to dress like a jr if ur 35! ( i'm 36 and only shop in jr sections)some great lines that would be in the "jr section" of a dept store that is for any age, Free People, Splendid, DKNY- then there are lines like Nanette Lepore and BCBG that might be around the jr section because it is trendy and has the same smaller cut but carries a more sophisticated look- u can go to a dept store and see the difference in the fit (try on) and the style to understand more

Juniors are made for teens and misses are for adult women-Juniors seem to run a little smaller and misses seem to be more conservative as far as looks! Hope this helps!

I would say Missy is more of a contemporary clothing for young women. Example BCBG is more of a missy brand and BCBG girls is a juniors fit.

If you haven't noticed, most designer clothes are a little bigger. I guess it's a design for women who are fully developed versus someone is beginning to develop. I hope this helps.

Junior sizes tend to be a slimmer fit than misses.
