You have to get a wireless router and then set up a wireless network using the instructions with the router.

First, you need a wireless router to connect to the Broadband modem.
Then, If your laptop is a newer one, it most probably have a wireless adapter card already inside it to enable it to communicate to t he wireless router and then out through your broadband modem to the Internet. If not, you will need to get one for it.
You can also use a spare PC (if you have one ) and set that up as a dedicated wireless router by putting a wireless adapter in it and connecting this PC to the broadband modem. This way, both PC and Laptop can share the internet connection.

All you need to do is buy a wireless router - they're cheap nowadays, in the $50 range, sometimes even cheaper.

Connect your broadband to the router, setup the wireless (they usually provide an application to make this easier) - then do the setup on your laptop.

If you're laptop is older and doesn't have built in wireless, you simply by a wireless USB or PCMCIA (PC Card), insert it and set it up.

The only caveat is that you need to buy a router with the proper connection. If you're using cable modem, you'll need a router that supports coaxial cable, if you're using DSL, you need a router that has phone (DSL) in.
