i never watch the view, but i would like to know why people make such a big deal about the things she says... i mean she's obviously just trying to drum up some publicity for one of more asinine shows on television

Like it or not, people pay attention to celebrities. Rosie has enjoyed celebrity status for a long time, and has tried to bring attention both to herself and to her various favorite causes. She does this by making outrageous statements and making sure that her face is on our TVs all the time. The positive effect is that it's brought more attention to the plight of orphaned children in this country.
Now, however, most of the people in this country already know her views on adoption, gay parenting, etc. She's shoved them down our throats long enough that we're accustomed to those ideas (whether we agree with them or not). But because she has made it her business to shock and draw attention, and because she began her career as a comedienne, she continues to say things she thinks will "get people talking" about her. The problem is she's lost touch with reality, and doesn't realize that she's not educating the public anymore with this type of behavior, or that some of the things she says are in fact hurtful. She is now pushing away the audience that she's been beckoning toward her for so many years. That is a betrayal of people who've stuck by her all this time.
I have to say, I think Barbara Walters made a mistake in hiring Rosie. I always hated the show, but I'd still watch it once in a while. Now I go out of my way to avoid it. All I hear about the show now is that Rosie O'Donnell has pissed someone off yet again. Publicity is one thing, but this is ridiculous.

O'Donnell is television's uneducated version of radio's Howard Stern. A blatant racist but loved by the liberal entertainment industry because she is an outspoken Bush hater. Fortunately, she is in the 14th of her 15 minutes of fame. She is walking evidence of why gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt children. (Sorry, but homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, not a constitutionally protected race or religion).
