Herald means announce or give the news, so the phrase means listen to the angels who are announcing the birth of Christ.

I like your question, what does Hark the Herald Angels Sing mean. It means to Hark or listen to the Herald Angels they are
the messingers of God. So basically broken down, the song wants all to listen to the message the angels will be singing. Which is about the birth of Christ, that all should rejoice. It is said that peace reigned on the night he was born. I really hopr that I have been some help to you.

The song title needs a comma to make sense.
It's "Hark, the herald angels sing."

The word 'hark' means 'to listen'.
'Herald' means to announce something, therefore, a 'herald' is a messenger.

The song is telling people to stop and listen to hear the message of the angels as they announce the birth of Jesus.

There are other lyrics in the verses that are equally confusing, as they contain older words that aren't so much in use in everyday language.

'Godhead' - divine nature or essence, literally means God
'incarnate deity' - God in human form

Hope that helps explain it a bit.

The problem is that there's no punctuation. It really does sound like a bunch of random words strung together. Here it is with some explanations:

Hark! (this means "listen to this!")
The herald angels sing (herald angels would be angels whose job it is to make announcements)
"Glory to the newborn king." (that's what the angels are announcing)

Make sense now?

Hark! -- Which if you look at the music is how it is written, would mean like Listen!

Herald is like a messenger, which is actually what the original Greek word for angel is -- one who brings a message.

So listen to the messengers -- the Angels as they are singing about the birth of Christ.

Hark! the herald angels sing,
'Glory to the new-born King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild--
God and sinners reconciled!'

See, Wesley puts all those words in the mouths of the angels. Think about it, God and sinners reconciled. That reminds me that Jesus Christ did not come just to be a baby, He did not come to put this little town of Bethlehem on the map, He didn't even come to give us a fuzzy feeling at Christmastime. Jesus came to reconcile two estranged parties. He came to reconcile God and man. We human beings had become estranged from God and that's because of our disobedience. But Jesus came to bridge the gap. He came to bring God

The line comes from a Christmas Carol. It's about angels singing to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus.
