I recently rented this and saw it for the first time and did not like it at all. The reason I rented it was because on IMDB.com the movie is rated in the top 100 of all time. One thing I did not like is that it is advertised as an action film when in reality it is anything but that. That few actual action sequences dont have much to them. Now I understand that there is a deeper meaning to this film but still I thought it was awful. I do enjoy Sci Fi films but this one just didnt do it for me. So for the people that really like this film please tell me specifically what you love about it. Im interested in hearing. This question is not intended to bash the film but rather recieve opinions on why others liked it since I did not at all.

actually Im not as young as I think you may think I am. I am 28 not 15 so I actually like 80's movies. And I saw how there were deeper meanings like if a Replicant should deserve to live and if Harrison Ford was a replicant or not. Just didnt do it for me. And yes, I saw the directors cut.

You are young. I'm 34. When this movie came out it was very progressive. I didn't 'get it' when I was young but I get it now. Watch it again when you're 34.

Rewatch it and notice these details:
1) it is a drama not an action
2) the music
3) the lighting
4) California looks like Japan with Seattle weather - how futuristic is that
5) it's deep - deals with humanitarian issues - do robots have rights?
6) Harrison Ford is amazing - look at his facial expressions
7) a big budget movie for it's time
8) it depicts advertising in the future - who knew atari would come back?
9) Is Harrison a robot? Check out the alternate endings.
10) Look at the colors - gray, black, sleek - 25 yeas before the Matrix look.

Sorry, you didn't like the movie. It has a certain pace to it that some people can't get a feel for. Most of the action movies today are high octane and you may have been expecting that considering the title.

Overall it's a good movie with good special effects in regards to it's futuristic scenery. Way ahead of it's time. The film can out in 1982 and still looks great today.

Since you did not like this movie I will suggest these which you may like.

Equilibrium - Very cool you will not be disappointed
Ninja Scroll - Animation at it's best

Trust me.

It blew everyone away when it came out because it was one of the first movies to be in 70mm instead of 35mm and the story was very good. If you rented it, you probably got the director's cut which has no narration. The theater version had Ford narrating through the movie which for most, made it more interesting. The movie has a lot of under current themes that if you miss them, it will seem stupid. However the movie is a tremendous piece of work.

BTW the movie Soldier with Kurt Russell has tattoos of his battle and some of the battles are places named in Bladerunner by the last replicant. Same writer for both movies.

It is very beautiful with a message like the death scene in the end
"I have seen things You people wouldn't believe,
I have seen starships on fire over the shoulder of Orion,
C-beems glittering in the Tennhauser gate.
All those moments lost, like teardrops in the rain
time to die!"

A very cool movie. Like the special effects. Reminds me of my favorite "Tron"
