That's for people who don't know how to take care of them since usually hamsters are taken care by kids. And since kids can't take care of pets like hamsters, hamsters tend to die really fast.

Hamsters ARE good pets if you get them from the right place, and know how to take care of them. If you buy a hamster from a pet store with knowledgable employees and animals that are well taken care of, you're off to a good start. They aren't usually too hard to take care of. As with any pet, make sure to monitor it, and take note of any changes in how it looks or acts. Hamsters are fine pets, but a lot of people get them almost overestimating their durability, and that's when problems start.

Hamsters can live up to 3 years at times. The biggest problem you run in to in a hamster is "WET TAIL", this can be deadly if not treated right away. At the first sign of it go to your local pet store and get the meds. (they can help you find it.)
How do you know it is "wet tail"? THEY WILL HAVE A WET BEHIND.

Awww well i had two. The first one lasted for about 3 months. The second one didn't last five days. I took care of them but they just died. I think they are pretty good pets but some things might be wrong with them.

i actually have had many hamsters when i was little. the first one we had i think died of old age. the other one died when we went on vacation during winter time and we came back and he was frozen. the other one i dont know how died but he had crap all over him. another my cat ate him. one we lost and found in our closet a while later dead. they all seem to die strangely. its cause they are so tiny. but they were alot of fun when i had them. i still think they were great pets even though they died quickly. i had a couple that actually lived a good amount of time. it just depends on how well you take care of them.
