lets see .... she doesn't want you to give her a hint and she wants it to be a surprise... huh.... how a bout you stay out of the whole issue completely and let her surprise you. And if she does ask out front tell her exactly what you want (color, brand, etc) keeping her budget in mind. Macy has great colognes.

Type up a list of 10 things with price ranges from $20 - $100 and give it to her best friend or your best friend so they can 'hint' to her what you want, then act like it's a big surprise when you get it.

If you want to compromise, say 'honey, we can spend $60 on each, is that okay?" - then you can at least set a price limit so no one out does another.

If you don't know what you want, thing of things that you could use. For example:

dinner certificate for two (you and her), that new powertool you want, clean underwear, cologne, tickets to a sporting event, a new washing machine, etc.

She should dump you for Christmas. That would be a BIG surprise. You could always get back together for New Year's Eve. Think of all the money she'd save! She should definitely do that!

I would say tell her what you like to do as a general thing and she could get you something along that line. For instance, if you like to bike, she could remember that you sometimes bike when it's dark so she could get you flashers... does that help?
