Sure he is. Actually in Europe some time ago a man that was called St. Nicolas delievered small presents to young orphans. It wasn't what we think of today when we say Santa, but he was a real person.
As far as the current goes, Santa Claus is real if you believe in him. Sure, maybe some don't, but there has been no disproof. Whether or not you believe in the man, the spirit of Santa Claus and his charity still exists.
Please everyone, though it sounds very fake, please try to remember the true spirit of Christmas -- or the holidays. Gift giving is nice, just don't get so wrapped up in it that you are rude to others around you. Try to think less selfishly and enjoy the holidays.
To keep the spirit alive try smiling at people you see, or performing a small act of kindness. In doing so, you are insuring that Santa Claus lives on.

Is There a Santa Claus?
From the Editorial Page of The New York Sun,
written by Francis P. Church, September 21, 1897
We take pleasure in answering thus prominently the communication below, expressing at the same time our great gratification that its faithful author is numbered among the friends of The Sun:
"Dear Editor--I am 8 years old.
"Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
"Papa says, 'If you see it in The Sun, it's so.'
"Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the scepticism of a sceptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

actually, SergioPL has a good point he might be a made up charecter, but no one has proven that he isnt real. For example, 2 years ago I woke up and there was presents under my christmas tree but my parents went out the night before. I don't know if Santa Clause is real, but i know forsure he can't come down chimneys.

I can't give you prove that he's real but I can say that I do believe in Santa because he's not only a gift giving person for children, but he also symbolizes Christmas. He shows the spirit of Christmas the reason why families tell there kids about him was because he gives the kids a reason to be good and in "the spirit of Christmas." Even if people say they don't believe in him, I think they really do because he represents spirit

Santa Claus is based on people who lived long ago and were giving/caring people. The character basically embodies the spirit of giving, and thus is real in that way. Is he or was he an actual person, and did what the stories say (lived at the North Pole with elves)...no.

There was a man many years ago named Nick (nikolas) He made toys for children. Eventually this transferred to children putting out shoes for him to fill, like the stocking tradition of today. Nick ended up becoming St. Nikolas, who has christmas carols about him. If Santa Clause exists its the spirit of giving that we hold to each other. Believe what you want to believe. And let your parents pretend. especially if you have younger siblings, its still fun.

Santa Claus was based off a real guy, St. Nicholas, and the story of Saint NIcholas is that he used to give presents to all the children he used to live about 500 yrs ago, but Santa Claus was based off him therefor he isnt exactly real now, and he doesnt give presents to children, that was just sort of a myth thing, but he used to be alive way way way back in the day that when he used to give presents to children but now ofcourse he's dead but the tradition keeps living on
