depends on the degree but nowerdays its more useful to do some sort of vocational course which leads to a specific job. I got a degree in geography and then discovered that it is very difficult to get a job because so many people have degrees these days. so i am now doing a masters. its still useful to have a degree but is it really worth racking up £6k of debt per year if it doesn't lead to a job?

A degree is a degree and even though it is obviously better to have passed with Honours, you can still show prospective employers that you have studied to a certain level with some success.

I got a third. It was worth it. I generally never put the grade on my cv and only 10% of companies actually asked. Don't go for really big corporations though as they really think that 2:1 or above is the only way to go.
