my dad told me that about the following question. so I want ask the locals. I'll ask you. {my dad doesn't want to look like stupid dumb city slicker tourist}

if you but a karate on a string the string on a poll. attach the poll to a donkey. how long will the donkey walk til it found out that it wasn't going get it.

Most likely the carrot on the string would swing back and forth as the donkey moves and within a short period of time, the carrot would swing far enough in for the donkey to eat it. But the only way that would work would be if you had a very food motivated donkey and most donkeys arent that ill fed as to be motivated by a carrot on a string.
