I think it was to hide the shallowness of his skin....as you know he was very sick and the black and white did not show the ravages the illness caused as badly...I am a HUGE Freddie fan and have all of his video from after he got sick..through the somewhat obscure videos you can really watch the slow deterioration......it was very sad to see someone with such a powerful voice brought down as he was....but I hope he is at peace now....

If you look carfully, you´ll notice his face is badly damaged!
Especially in ´´These are the days of our lives´´, &
´´I´m going slightly mad´´.
Though in Headlong was in colour, yet Freddie had beard on that!
Another reason is the Innuendo record´s atmosphere,
which´s a dark Heavy metal oriented one...
