I know how to do both, and I have to say I prefer knitting. It is not only easier and faster, but requires MUCH less yarn. You CAN buy sets of knitting needles with many different sizes of pairs, try www.knitpicks.com and check out their new Options Set, it is INCREDIBLE! To learn how to knit, go to www.knittinghelp.com for easy-to-learn-from videos that actually SHOW you everything step by step!

I know how to do both, much prefer crochet, for me it's faster and easier once you learn. To repair a dropped stitch in knitting is much more difficult and to do so can cause a 'run', in crochet you hardly know. Easier to correct mistakes in crochet, only one loop to be concerned with instead of an entire knitting needle full. Each to his own. Enjoy!

Knitting is generally faster, but it can vary a lot depending on who is doing the knitting/crocheting. I think knitting is more versatile, too, there are a lot more patterns out there & you can make a lot of different types of designs with the two basic knit stitches. (ribbing, cables, lace, &c.)

Yes, you could crochet it directly onto the top of the bag (by poking small holes in the fabric and crocheting stitches into these holes...that's what the other kind responder was talking about, I believe) OR you can whip-stitch (over and over) the trim onto the top of the bag by hand OR you could even zig-zag it on the machine. This last would be strong, although it might not look as attractive as neat hand-stitching. The hand stitching might also be easier to remove if the trim ever frayed and you wanted to replace it.

crocheting is much easier. I was able to do it whe nI was about eith. There's just one basic stitch that you can then add on to. Kniting has a lot more different stiches and things. I can't knit!

i think crocheting is easier.. also it may be cheaper because you dont need two needles, and you can buy lots of them in a pack. i also think there are more patterns you can make with crocheting.
