Emerson supported individualism, as he also wrote in this passage, "Envy is ignorance," and "Imitation is suicide." MY interpretation of the quote, "If you choose to live your life by truth, in the end you will see truth," is that people have to live and think honestly and seek their own thoughts; basically stating people can be SELF-RELIANT, though still arrive at truth because Emerson calls for people to awake their inner self.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, whose original profession and calling was as a Unitarian minister, left the ministry to pursue a career in writing and public speaking. Emerson became one of America's best known and best loved 19th century figures.
