Generally the answer varies, depending upon who you ask. some people say there are 194 countries if you include Taiwan. Taiwan considers itself a country, but many other countries do not consider Taiwan a country. 192 countries are members of the United Nations - Vatican City is not a member and Taiwan is not a member.
