After a women gives birth to a child, how long after until her normal period starts again? As i have read that period stops when a woman is pregnant, so after she delivers when does her actual period start back and does the after bleeding have a relationship with the period or is it different? Is the after birth bleeding more than usual menstrual bleeding?

Menstrual bleeding happens when the uterus sheds the lining it had prepared in case of pregnancy.

Post-partum bleeding happens when the uterus sheds the much larger, heaver lining that supported a baby throughout the 9 months of pregnancy.

When normal menstrual cycles start again depends on how a woman feeds her baby.

Women who exclusively formula-feed have their cycles start almost after the initial six-week period where the uterus is recovering.

Exclusively breastfeeding women may not have them resume for up to a year, though usually it starts shortly after solids are introduced, sometime after six months.

If she's doing a combination of formula and breast, it will be somewhere in between. (The more she nurses, the longer it will be put off.)

It depends on the woman.

I started about 5 months after the birth of my daughter. After pregnancy your hormones are still rather high. And if the mother chooses to breast feed, that will delay the start longer due to the hormone levels.

Basically it is very individual. I breast fed, and started my period 5 months later. My sister went almost a year without starting, but my best friend started 12 weeks after the birth of her son. Sorry I can't be more accurate.
