I recently quit drinking, a habit I had been doing about 3 or 4 nights a week before I went to bed. I have been off alcohol for a week and am sleeping about 4 to 5 hours a night, but it is difficult to fall asleep. I was wondering if anyone had any tips.

You could try an herbal tea that has chamomile in it; can help you go to sleep naturally.

Also, have you ever tried meditating? A nice, relaxing 5-10 minutes of deep breathing and meditation before bed can really help you get to sleep faster, and also have a deeper sleep, so you feel really refreshed the next day.

Pleasant dreams. :)

had exactly the same problem. I was diagnosed with anxiety attacks. Was on Prozac for a couple of months and was given Lorazepam to help alleviate the attacks. Before I went to the doctor my medicine to fall asleep was also alcohol. Now i have become emotionally stronger and decided to stops taking Prozac and lorazepam. So what I do, I take Benadrille to help me sleep. I take two caps. The psychologist that I was taking at the time said that they are non-habit forming. Good luck.

Valerian is very helpful. You can get it at any health food store and many supermarkets. Warm milk with a little honey mixed in is good. Try "Sleepytime" tea or any other herbal tea with Chamomile. I like Lipton's "Quietly Chamomile."

How about a warm bath. Yes, guys can take baths! Read for a little while - nothing too exciting. Short stories are good, because you don't stay up half the night in order to finish.

Sweet dreams!

I've been through the same thing but drank every night. I started takin 2 tylenol pm and then cut back to 1 after a few weeks. That way you wont depend on them to sleep. Hopefully it works for you and congrats on your quitting drinking
