Has she read the first Harry Potter yet? It's only 309 pages long.. But, if she can't read that in 3 days, then I reccomend a book called Lizzie at Last by Claudia Mills. I read it when I was in 5th or 6th grade ( I don't remember which) But I do remember that I liked it a lot and I would read it again any day! It's 152 pages. It's actually about a girl in seventh grade ( is her first year in middle school). She likes to write poems, she wears dresses....all that. Then, she likes this guy, but he's popular and would never notice her. So she stops wearing dresses and starts to write her poems less and less, until she finally makes friends with the right people and then becomes popular. But then the challenge becomes whether or not she can get Ethan, her crush, to notice her. And,yes, you guessed it, her name is Elizabeth, but when she becomes popular she is called Lizzie.

one of my sisters is in that grade and that age, but shes like me, and has had a college reading level since 4th grade..........she's reading Tamora Pierce books again, and Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, but Tamora Pierce books are no more than 300 pages long for the most part, she should be able to read the Lioness Quartet, or at least part of the series, by then.

Lioness:
Alanna, the First Adenture
In the Hand of the Goddess
Woman Who Rides Like a Man
Lioness Rampant

the link has other good books by Tamora Pierce

Percius Jackson and the Olympians series, I think it's called. Or, the first Alex Rider book, Stormbreaker. It's a good book, filled with suspense and everything. And if they like horror things, the first Darren Shan book would be a great one. If not, try the Chronicals of Narnia books. Other good books are Doormat, I Was A Non-Blonde Cheerleader, What Would Larry Do?.

I would suggest The Giver by Lois Lowry like several people have mentioned. Or Holes by Louis Sachar. Or The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Or Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. Or So B. It by Sarah Weeks. Or Kira-Kira by Cynthia Kadohata. Or The Liberation of Gabriel King by K.L. Going.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

I'm a college graduate, and I find it a lovely work. If I decide to have kids, they will grow up with this book. I read it in an afternoon.

I would recommend "The Giver," by Lois Lowry. I remember reading it in sixth grade, as did my best friend, and it is a relatively short book.
