Yes exercise is a great way to battle depression. Exercise raises endorphins and serotonin levels . And the higher your endorphins and serotonin levels are the better your mood, out look on life etc.. will be.
You are really doing a great thing for your body and your self with the jogging. You are going to lose the excess weight that you are carrying around. Which is bad for your health. And the exercise is also putting you in a better frame of mind and mood.
Keep it up! I work out at the gym 3 times a week. If I miss a few sessions. I some times start feeling down, and not quite happy with my body.

Exercise is a great way to assist in overcoming depressed feelings. I think there are four main areas of our lives that we can focus on when feeling depressed. They are: the physical, the social, the intellectual, and the spiritual.

Exercise is a great way to over come depressed feelings and it releases chemicals that are not prevelant when we are depressed.

Doing a kind deed for someone else is a great way to focus on the social side of life. Does it not feel great when you do a kind, anonymous deed for someone else? Bake some cookies and leave them on the doorstep of a grouchy nieghbor. You will feel great.

Reading a good book will help you challenge yourself intellectually. When you set goals and meet them, you feel better about yourself.

Finally, ask God for guidance in overcoming your feelings. That will help in knowing that an all powerful source is mindful of you and your needs.

Yes, you got it. Exercise tires the body, and when you stop your brain releases seratonin to restore the body. The heavier the work out, the more seratonine you will have released on your brain, and therefore, the well being feelings will be more powerful and last longer.
I am all addicted to that :-D Problem is that I am a slim person so I have to refrain from exercising much :-(

Endorphins (or more correctly Endomorphines) are endogenous opioid biochemical compounds. They are peptides produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates, and they resemble the opiates in their abilities to produce analgesia and a sense of well-being. In other words, they might work as "natural pain killers." Using drugs may increase the effects of the endorphins.

It's hard to feel like excising when you're down, but it's what my doctor told me to do. Exercise and avoid sugar. I think it releases endorphins, which promote a feeling of happiness and calm.
