Another incomprehensable statement by our commander in cheif. He has been trying to blame all the problems with medical care on the lawyers and malpractice suits. I guess what he's saying that if someone butchers someone with impunity it's an act of love just like an abuser.

I'm guessing by love, he means delivering a baby as a profession is an act of love.
In the context, he's quite right that many OB/GYNs have stopped delivering babies, for the simple fact their Medical Malpractice insurance premiums have skyrocketed. My wife's OB/GYN did this within the last 4 months.

I agree with some of the other posters it was about malpractice lawsuits and how they have got out of hand to the point that doctors are afraid to practice medicine and to point out one of the reasons healthcare is so high. GB senior used to say the same thing that we needed to love one another more and quit looking for reasons to sue each other.

If the whole speech were shown and not taken out of context it would show that the president was talking about malpractice suits. So to answer, it is about the damaging effects of malpractice suits and the doctors leaving the field.

He's saying because of the incompetent doctors we now have, Insurance claims have threatened all doctors. If more doctors would get rid of the butchers instead of protecting them the law suites wouldn't happen.

Whatever biased news source you got that from doctored it to make it sound like Bush is endorsing fornication when he was really endorsing the end of the increasing number of needless medical litigation.
Common left-wing spin though, so I was able to recognize it as bs relatively quickly.

The doctors are getting out of medicine because most spend $100K a year just on malpractice insurance.
