Okay, I've been out of the (political) loop for about six months. I haven't seen much news as I'm now a stay-at-home mom. But it's killing me not keeping up with current events. Sooo, why is Donald Rumsfield out? He was great! All I can find is recent bits about it, but not the whole story. Help!!

I'm a veteran, btw, if that means anything, but I think Rumsfield was doing an awesome job while I was in. He's more concerned about ending the f'n war then pansy-@ssing this thing. I was under the impression that Bush got rid of him to cover his own butt or else to sastify the media. Also, stay at home with two toddlers all day and see how much tv you watch.

Because Congress flipped Democrat in the elections, so team Bush had to do something to try and make it seem like they are "listening" to the public about the war and about how "stay the course" is not working.
Rumsfeld was a lightning rod for criticism about the war. He was terribly unpopular, even in his own department. The Repubs thought that keeping him around would hurt them even more politically, while making the prospects of a Democratic President and expanded Democratic Congress in the '08 elections just that much more attractive.
Of course, the official Republican meme at the time was that the President didn't want to get rid of Rumsfeld before the election, because that would have looked like a political move, if you can believe that.

Being an at home mom is no excuse. Don't you have a TV, radio, read a paper or magazine? He was totally incompetent and the reason America failed in Iraq and good troops have lost lives. He goes on the list with all the others that Bush appointed and thinks did a good job while actually were part of the worst administration ever. Rumsfeld, Brownie, Chertoff, Cheney,Libby, Rove, Delay. The list goes on and on.
That is unless you are a millionaire and have stocks in war goods or foreign countries, or a contractor rebuilding Iraq, then you would think he's great.
$350. billion spent on an ill thought out war that could have gone to legal Americans in the form of health care, jobs for the middle class, decrease cost of living, etc.

enable us to all rejoice!! I even have not had an alcoholic beverage in years yet this evening would be diverse. Now inquire from me if i think safer as an American. My answer is very very nearly! I little extra this evening and rather much extra in January. I would desire to upload this from the linked Press... The electoral rebuke for President Bush and the resignation of his protection secretary, the two deeply unpopular faraway from American shorelines over the Iraq conflict, replaced into celebrated during Europe, the midsection East and Asia From Paris to Pakistan, politicians, analysts and trouble-free voters pronounced Wednesday they was hoping the Democratic takeover of the two homes of Congress would tension Bush to undertake a extra conciliatory strategies-set to worldwide crises, and coach a president many see as a "cowboy" a lesson in humility. stable Riddance Rumsfeld, save a seat for George! isn't it humorous that now that usa has spoken...Bush needs to retract his answer relating to the resignation and say it replaced into all in the plans. a week in the past, Donald replaced into assume to stay the term. Bush knows that he and his administration has no longer accomplished something stable for usa. he's no longer guy sufficient to confess it. It took "We the human beings" to visit polls and shout it out to him.

He was great? You've been out of the political loop for much more than six months. Turn on the television watch the news about Iraq. That should help you understand. He was so great we're now talking about increasing the amount of troops for the army and marines. So much for his slimmer more efficient military.

He didn't send enough troops to Iraq to keep more here. That's what got him kicked out. We weren't able to secure Iraq fast enough and now sectarian violence has spread throught the country.
Because we haven't been able to secure their government yet, the American people blamed him for his mistake. He was released after a democratic majority took over but I think he partly wanted to leave office.
He wasn't the worst guy as sec of defense.

You are so correct! Rummy was great!!!!
You never really know why some one leaves ANY administration.
Bush thought he was great too, but did Bush let him go because of America's defeat in the Nov 7 election?
Or did Rummy finally have enough?
NO ONE KNOWS.
Most of any Administration is Burnt Out after 4 years.
How Rumsfeld made it 6 years is only because he is a very very strong person who loves the USA.
Thank you for a good question.
Bless you & yours.
