You do NOT need to get an 1080p TV just because you want to get a PS3. I think there's maybe 1 or 2 launch games that can actually output at 1080p. Most of the PS3 games will be in 720p or 1080i. Game companies knows that it's going to be a few years down the road before there's more homes with 1080p TV. Even right now, the majority of homes don't have HD TV, so it's not likely to change significantly anytime soon.
Do some research on your own and decide which system is best for you. You do know that you're going to get a bunch of different answers from all these fanboys. And you're not going to get the most accurate info either. For example, a 360 fanboy said that Wii and MS are working together so that a lot of 360 exclusive titles will appear on the Wii. Do you want to read this kind of crap when you're trying to make your decision?
Those games that the guy listed are askewed. Of course the 360 version is going to look better because they've had at least a year to work with the 360, while they had maybe a few months to work with the PS3. For that matter, most of those games were designed for the PS2 and got converted over to the PS3 with some make-up upgrades.
See, this is the kind of problem you're going to run into when you ask the question about which system is better.

The graphics actually look the same compared to the 360 and the PS3. But there are certain games that look different.
For Example:
Need for Speed Carbon:
Both systems have fairly similar graphics in Need for Speed Carbon, but the Xbox 360 has better lighting while the PS3 has sharper textures. The 360 has better high dynamic range lighting in the Camaro image. I'm not sure if the PS3 version blurs the background tree leaves on purpose, but it's another noticeable difference. The lighting in the street shot appears more realistic on the 360, but the building textures are sharper on the PS3. It also seems to be missing some lighting and a few landmarks in the rearview mirror of the PS3 version.
Call of Duty 3:
Call of Duty 3 has made its way onto just about every major console, but it definitely looks best on the Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 comes in a close second, but the 360 is the clear winner. The textures have less detail on the PS3, and the game looks a little washed out. Between the overly bright visuals and muddy textures, the PlayStation 3 can't match the 360 version's gritty look.
Madden NFL 07
Tthe stadium wasn't casting any shadows on the field in the PlayStation 3 version. The Xbox 360 had sharper textures on the character models in the close-up shots shown between plays. You can actually see the jersey material and the Reebok logo on the player in the Xbox 360 shot. The PS3 jerseys looked better than the 360's while players were in motion.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance
You'll have to make your Marvel Ultimate Alliance decision based on Xbox 360 rumble support versus PS3 Sixaxis control since the graphics seem to be identical on both systems.

These types of questions are always hard to answer since personal preference is yours alone. If you enjoy the games that are on PS3 then get a PS3. If you enjoy the games on the XBOX then get an XBOX. Keep in mind that both consoles are striving to add even more features. At the moment, the XBOX Live service model gives you a ton of neat stuff including cross-game chat with your friends. Both consoles will have their exclusive games of course, but some of the more popular ones will be coming out on both this time around (i.e. Final Fantasy if you're into RPG's). It seems the PS3 is just now trying to implement features that are already included on the XBOX as well (i.e. Netflix, Facebook, etc.).

Wow ok very simple if I was you in my shoes. I would personally go with the 360. Reasons Playstation 3 has come out and it has horrible games as of right now. Xbox 360 also has the bugs worked out now and you can play all the xbox games and I personally like the 360 graphics on my 80" Projector using the Componet Video Cable (Not composite Componet) You will probably be happier with the 360. Unless your a huge FF fan or a GTA fan otherwise you will be happier with the 360. One more thing. If you want a Blu ray dvd player hands down by the ps3 its the cheapest BR player you can get. Its the only reason I bought it a 600$ blu ray player is cheap. The normall Cheapest ones you can get are 1000$ if you want to talk to me more about it let me know and Ill chat with you more.

Just a games machine go for the xbox i was disapointed with how many good ps3 games are out and are coming out in the next few months. But i bought the ps3 cause i wanted to play blu-ray movies aswell. so i got the wii for games and fun and the ps3 at the moment is my movie player apart from resistance until more games are released.
ps3 is a great blu-ray movie player, yeah xbox has hd-dvd but i think blu ray will win in the end. i have a ps3 on a sanyo 1080i projector hooked up via component, i still get 1080i. i dont get 1080p which my projector doesnt have anyway so thats not a biggy. and the picture is still great. just my 2 cents

If you dont want to spend that much money for a hd tv then dont get one and dont get the ps3. The xbox 360 is the best choice for you because it looks great and already has plenty of good games out now. The ps3 will get more games later and you wont find one right away and it sounds like you dont want to wait so go with the xbox 360. Good Luck.

I wouldn't get a PS3 yet, if you remember all the problems that xbox 360 had when it first came out, with all the people that had to send it back because of bugs in the system, I say let them get the bugs out of the system first or just go with an xbox360.

i'd go for Xbox360, cause it's the most sold gaming console out there, and has a lot of unique games. the ps3 doesn't have so many games out yet sense it's been release last month.

only one really good reason to buy a PS3 - all the previous games from PS2 and PS1 will play on it.
XBox wont and never will - same issue Nintendo, Sega had.
