I have an non-sever ankle sprain and have been in an air cast for two weeks. I can now stand on my fott and maybe able to walk. However, the swelling once gone a few days ago is back and even though my injury was never black and blue it is becoming black and blue now. Can this be a sign of healing?

If you are increasing your activity level it is likely a sign that you are irritating tissues. I would monitor it and unless your physical symptoms take a turn for the worse, I wouldn't worry about it. Maintain your anti-inflammatory use, keep icing, etc....

More likely to mean your injury was more serious than you thought. Swelling is the bodies way of protecting the injured area and bruising is bleeding. Did you have an x-ray? I would re-visit my doctor if I were you, this type of injury (sprained ligaments, or torn ligaments) can take a hell of a long time to heal if you don't do it right. You may also have a hairline fracture which would also explain your symptoms. Good luck with it.

No, black and blue is new blood. New swelling is not a good sign. Old blood would be darker and also yellowish. You're probably reinjuring your foot with ambulation in an aircast. See your doctor. You should stay off the foot for at least 24 hours.

No, you probably broke a bone in your. It was healing, and you overstressed it and it broke again. Have an X-ray, or at the very least, stay off of it for awhile.
