It all stems back to 13 being an unlucky number, particularly Friday the 13th.
On Friday, October 13, 1307 by King Philip IV of France had all of the Knights Templar killed in a somewhat vicious surprise attack. From this sprang the idea that Friday the 13 was unlucky and ultimately it branched into the number 13 itself being unlucky.

I don't know what year, but it's been proved that lots of people are superstitious enough to be scared to stay on the thirteenth floor. It's odd because the 14th floor is really the 13th, just with a number "14".
Whatever floats your boat.

Yeh thats true....superstition. I stayed at a cheer camp and they never allowed anyone to stay on the 13th flooor. They had a 13th floor though, but you could not stay on that floor. You know girls...always trying to be daring and go up to the 13th floor....SCARY...I wouldn't recommend it!
