Don't go by Yahoo Answers spell check!
It consistently MISSES misspelled words! And tries to "correct" others which are correctly spelled. Go figure!
My formerly outstanding spelling skills really started to slide when I moved to Belgium where the official languages are Dutch and French. French words are often very similar to English ones with slight spelling differences. Plus I lived in Canada before coming here where we used a lot of British spellings (theatre, honour...for example). So, these days I don't know WHAT I'm spelling!

I think in this technological (is that spelt correctly) world, I think we have all got a bit lazy, for example I found myself using a calculator for work and just got so used to adding numbers that i actually inputted 2 + 2. Another point is that some spellings of words have actually changed, there seems to be a lot of words where the "z"s are being replaced by "s"s but to answer your original question, Yes I think words seem to be getting harder to spell, maybe its my memory which is really getting....hmmm now whats that word

I think spell check just highlights spelling mistakes that would otherwise go unnoticed by both the sender and the reader in a handwritten document. Even though people know how to spell the words, without being super careful, mistakes will happen.

SpellCheck has been a slight detriment to my spelling abilities. However, I blame most of the decline on Spanish class. It's hard to keep words like vacillate right when in Spanish the word is vacila (I forget how many 'L's there are supposed to be).

No, I don't. For me what the spell check picks up are typing errors.

Its like depending on a calculator for simple math. We get lazy and careless.
