1976 Honda CJ360T

After about 20miles (enjoy)drive, i've noticed leaks on the engine.

One is from where Tachometer cable is coming out. I am not sure what it looks like inside, but i could shake it and it was kind of loose. i am not sure if it is suppose to do that or not...

The other leak is from the valve cover gasket? or head gasket?
it was right below where the tach cable comes out.

Both places were bubbling out noticeably.

My first question is what do i have to do to stop the leak from where tachometer cable comes out? Is there a seal? or O-ring? or just screw in?

Second is the Gasket. I am having hard time finding Air Filter for this bike
where can i get the Gasket? I see alot of 76' CB360 parts.
are these parts interchangeable?

thank you

Tach cable: it's an o-ring seal. Remove the cross bolt and the cable will pull out. The valve cover gasket may be the same as a CB. Not 100% sure, Only 99%. In those years a 360 was a 360. Most differences between models were not in the engine, but in the frame, exhaust, etc. The major difference between my '74 CL 360 and a CB 360 was the high side exhaust. Parts should be available from your local dealer. He may have to look them up.

P.S. If your valve cover gasket is original and just beginning to leak, you may want to look into changing all your gaskets. They are 30 years old. If the head gasket leaks, you will want to change the cylinder base gaskets too. If you only do one at a time, you will be constantly taking it apart to fix leaks. BTDT on a '82 650.

No the CJ360T and CB360 parts are not interchangeable, first.
Get a shop manual for the bike. Either check the manufacturer, via dealer, or check book stores for special order.
If you are handy with a set of wrenches, tear the upper end down. You may be able to 'fabricator' the need valve cover gasket, but a head gasket is not so easily done.

Start by getting the manual. Also, you may want to check JC Whitney. They usually have all sorts of Honda parts, seriously.

The best thing I cold recomend you is to unscrew it and check the gasket or rings for cracks. The rubber rings can last for 20 years or so if maintained properly so it may just be warn out. If you can't find a proper rubber gasket use a silikon gasket maker they are of different types choose the proper one and go. Good luck.

Tach, replace the "O" ring and tighten it..Valve cover gasket, replace it. Some place on the engine case there is a atmospheric vent. Make sure it is clear. Sounds like the engine case is becoming pressurized....

I just looked it up. The cb & cj360 ust the same head gaskets. The air filters are different, but you might be able to make them work in either bike.
