Okay, I already feel like a HUGE dumb *** about this, so please, no mean comments...
I forgot our 4 year wedding anniversary today! I woke up with horrible menstrual cramps, was having some work problems, my husband lost his job, and we had agreed that I'd get him a gift in January when things were so tight before the holiday (he had given me a beautiful necklace at the beginning of the month as my gift...). But then today, he walks into my cube with a dozen roses and a box of chocolate covered cherries...plus he's making a wonderful dinner.
I started to cry right there...so I want to make this up to him somehow. I feel like huge chump change and the worlds worst wife (please no comments on that last part...). Are there any good constructive suggestions on how I can redeem myself?? It's not like I have the money to sink into something expensive. I just spent like $200 on him for christmas last night...what can I do?? I feel so horrible.

From a married man : First off, i myself wouldn't be mad about the situation, since the trouble you guys are having. In fact, i would think it was funny that I they guy, didn't forget as the old clice goes. Your husband sounds like he cares about you, and that means one thing, that you care about him. He knows this, and appriciates everything you've ALREADY done. Now you get to play role reversal. You give him the massage, and do all the work tonight in bed. Make sure you rock his world, and i mean till he tells you enough is enough! If sex can't happen, there is an alternative that is a very close second! Then when you guys get back on your feet, suprise him with going and doing an activity that HE enjoys doing. Probably not so much romantic, but fun. I would say that would be more than enough for no hard feelings. Just remember, you've got a good husband, and he didn't get that way without you. I'm sure by now you guys have been though something much harder than this. I think most of the time this is a bigger deal to the women than men. Not that it should be, but that's how it is. Oh, and remember.....when you guys have been together and he's getting pretty old, he's got a freebie to forget and make it up to. Good luck.

I think you should forgive yourself, because you had good reason to forget.

What you should do is talk to your husband, and without dwelling on it, tell him why you forgot. And thank him for remembering. Plus, ask him if it bothers him, and what, if anything, he feels you should do.

I don't think that anniversaries are a big deal in a healthy relationship. They only become important when the couple doesn't recognize and support each other daily. And it sounds like you have a good relationship. Just forgive yourself, so he doesn't get annoyed with your never-ending guilt.

And in a few years, when he forgets your anniversary, it will be funny.

Okay, here is what we are going to do.

1. Get a card, as racy as you can find.
2. Write something completely smutty inside.
3. Tonight you are taking special requests in bed.

Wash up, and be perky...its going to be a long and enjoyable night.
