there's a lot of things going on.
the hormones cause the digestive system to slow down because like that i gives your body a better chance to absorb all the nutrients in the food you eat to feed you and the baby.
the hormones makes your intestine shift to make room and get your body ready for the growing uterus so it gives you gasses and makes you feel bloated. Plus the slow digestive system makes you constipated.
Make sure to eat a healthy diet lots of veggies and fruits whole grains and lots and lots of water.

First of all, let me empathize with you. Poor dear! I understand beleive me!
The best you can do is to watch your diet and decrease those foods that cause gas (poor me, I HAD to have fried foods and sodas during my early pregnancy, now give me water and pizza and I'll be happy), but unfortunately, I do believe pills like gas-ex are a NO NO especially early on in the pregnancy. Sometimes rocking back and forth will help with moving the gas along, but later in your pregnancy, you may have to resign yourself to gas that will hurt worse than giving birth! As the baby and your internal organs (or as my neice says eplimus) fight for room, you have to be extra careful about gas, not to mention the hormones that relax the smooth muscle and slow down your digestion.
The best that I can hope for you is that it doesn't last long. Until it passes (so to speak) be secure in the fact that you can blame it on the baby, and clear crowded elevators, or small rooms, or disappate raging mobs. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

I am 6 weeks pregnant also. I have had terrible gas--- the terrible cramping kind! So I totally feel your pain! When it really hurts laying on your stomach helps to push it out-- much like when babies have gas, they can be laid on their tummies!

Your uterus and the baby inside are making themselves nice and comfy, and if that means pressing up against an intestine or a bladder it will be done. Growing is causing the cramps and gassiness

lay off the dairy and broccoli. These two foods, although very yummy and nutritious, cause lots of gas!
