Sitting up after eating doesn't seem to help my son. I have taken him to the Dr. and she said to come back if he is spitting up excessively, which is why I went in the first place! I just don't know what to do, he eats often, because he is hungry because he spits up so much. Eating less amounts, more frequently does not seem to help him either.

We are breastfeeding exclusively.

Yeah, he also spits up while breastfeeding, even if I have him tilted at an angle. Nothing conventional is helping. I don't think he is having trouble gaining weight, because he is feeding so often because he throws most of it back up!

Both my twins had acid reflux right from birth and my doctor gave me a prescription for them but what also worked was having them sleep sitting up, such as in their car seat/carrier.
Every time I laid them down after feeding, they both were bothered terribly by it but when I let them sleep sitting in their car seat, they seemed not too bad. Also, make sure he/she don't eat too fast and make sure you burp them well.

My daughter was diagnosed with silent reflux from day one. Silent reflux is when nothing actually comes up and out it only comes up to a certain point and then goes back down causing them to gag and choke on it. My daughters PED prescribed her Zantac but that only helped for a week she was then given solutabs Prevacid and I didn't see a huge difference with that either. I am the type of mother that sees giving a newborn/infant meds is risky and would rather just stay away from them. In the end to make a long story short I ended up taking her to a chiropractor after she was about 1 month. She was cured from reflux by the time she was 3 months. She is now 1 year old and we haven't had a problem since. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

I have this same issue and it has been going on with my daughter for 6 months. I really had to fight my doctor because although my daughter is still gaining weight she is constantly spitting up (She was doing this even while I was breastfeeding her, we switched to formula, she still did it and I tried everything, including cereal in the formula to make it heavier)

Anyway, be firm and assertive. Tell your doctor you want a prescription for Zantac for your baby (I finally just got this 2 days ago) Baby gets 1ml from the dropper provided twice a day (once in the morning, once at night) and there are really no side effects. Its like Tums kinda, but for a baby in liquid form (its an antacid)

The doctor that finally prescribed me this said that it may not actually completely stop the baby from spitting up, it will reduce the amount of spit up and make feeding time more comfortable for your baby :)

Nothing really. My cousins 6 week old baby was diagnosed with acid reflex. She was given some kind of medicine for him that doesn't work the greatest and they also told her to add baby cereal in his milk to make it heavier that way it stays down better. And not to lay him flat. So, try those things. Good Luck

My niece's doctor said to put a little rice cereal and mylecon in her bottle. Also, make sure you don't lie the baby down flat right after she eats. Hold her at an angle so that gravity helps it along. I have also heard that when the baby does go to sleep it may help to have a thing called a "wedge" to prop the baby up safely. If these things don't work, the doc may have to prescribe something. (Do check with doc first--about how much cereal and mylecon that is safe for your baby's age/weight etc.)

My daughter has severe reflux and she is on prilosec it seems to help but you should make sure that he is gaining weight properly because if he isnt this could be serious and he might need surgery to correct this.

Ask your dr for a prescription for Tumbs of that other heart burn medicine, I forgot the name but they make it for infants. My son had that and the dr gave me a prescription. Just go back and tell them its not working. They have to do something. Good Luck!!

Elevating the head of the bed they sleep in. There also some additives you can put in their bottles, but I can't remember off hand.
