I need to start with a good title in order to start a book, and titles are the hardest part for me. I am writing a story about a girl named Ivy who lives with her mother and sister in a small beach town on the East Coast. She loves the ocean and is an incredible painter, but is working a dead end job and taking care of a sick mother. Ultimately, it is about the struggle of following dreams and real life getting in the way and what do we really want from life and what are our dreams worth? The ocean is going to be a metatphor in the book, it represents the unknown and what lies beyond Ivy's smalltown life. I have thought about trying to use a Dickinson quote like "To Divide the Ocean." I have also thought of using a title with the words: sea, tides, riptides, driftwood, ocean, waves, currents. I just want the title to reference the ocean and I want it to be good, like "The Sun Also Rises" or "Tender is the Night" or "Catch-22." I need a great title. Any ideas?

Ocean City Girl - a song by Ivy.

I suggest you listen to it, cause ironically, the singer has the same name as your character, and it's about a girl at the ocean!

Well, here's the lyric to it.

setting sun
Keeping secrets away from everyone
Staring out into another world
Tide is rising, but time is standing still

Ocean city girl
Is smiling
Ocean city girl
Is flying

The night is falling; the streetlights start to glow
No one’s there when the cracks begin to show
They can’t hurt her like she’s been hurt before
No one here can get near her anymore

Ocean city girl
Is fading
Ocean city girl
Is saying goodbye

Ocean city girl
Is fading
Ocean city girl
Is saying goodbye

Ocean city girl
Is fading
Ocean city girl

You could do, "Falling waves", "Watching the Tides", "Ocean of Paint", "Painting with the Sea" I hope these help! Good luck and it sounds like a great book.

"Crossing the Sea", kinda talks about doing something thought impossible.
"Fighting Tides", battling against something stronger than yourself.
"Conquering an Ocean of Fears", just something random I thought of.
And yadda yadda yadda I could go on for awhile but I'm lazy.
Hope you find what you're looking for!
