No. It comes from a story by Ben Hecht early in the twentieth century of the same name. The original film in the thirties starred Paul Muni and George Raft. It was closer to what was intended, the prohibition era gangster of the twenties. Scarface's name in that film was Tony Camonte. Supposedly an Italian. Then a leading edge in the organized criminal groups. They try to represent the salient groups active also to cultivate them and press them into clandestine service. Montana represents the Cuban expatriation in the U.S.

( Quote female interviewer ) I didn't know you were so sensitive about your political status.

Camonte is all about brawn. Like the times. Why are we wasting time on a bunch of hoods, by the way?

Scarface is not a true character. The characters last name, Montana, was used because Oliver Stone, who wrote the movie, is a big Joe Montana fan and used his last name.

It's based on true storieS.... during that time in Miami, that was the fast life, money and power.
Did you know that the movie was actually shot in California?
Believe it or not, but Scarface faced SOOOO much criticizm, that the City of Miami became such a pain in the a@s to the filming, that finally they packed their stuff, and continued filming in Cali.
