If you mean for the very first time, as in you just opened the box, and your iPod is scratch empty, first you must get the iPod downloader, either from the Apple website or from the CD that you got with your iPod. Then you hook up your iPod to the computer. Automatically the updater/downloader should open, or you might have to manually open it, and it should give you instructions from there.

To turn it on after that, press any button. (If you haven't used it for a couple days, don't freak out if the apple logo appears. if you haven't used it for a couple days, you might need to hold the select button for a few seconds before it responds.)

By the way, there is no "On" button on an iPod, besides on the shuffle.

Just press the play button . Make sure the hold ( on top) is not on . And if you need to reset it to turn it on hold down play and menu.

Hold the menu button (middle button) or the play button for a while.
