1) Jesus -- obvious, no faith required to notice this.
2) Aristotle -- sure, we could say Plato, but St. Thomas Aquinas and Alexander the Great push Aristotle ahead. Socrates and Plato were the spark.
3) Charlemagne: often considered the Founder of Europe
4) Isaac Newton: Father of Modern Science
5) Johannes Gutenberg: invented the printing press--started the ball rolling on mass media

I think we have to be careful with people living in our era. They seem like giants to us, but time obscures their importance. Case in point: how many people know anything about Tamerlane?
Having said that, here are my top five:
1) Jesus (with a lot of help from Saul of Tarsus)
2) Muhammad
3) Buddha
4) Gutenberg
5) Columbus
And, in case you're wondering, I'm a very secular person, but my top three continue to affect billions of lives on a daily basis.

I would replace Lincoln with Hitler. I don't love him, but he did make a huge worldwide impact. Maybe Einstein should be on the list as well. Bill Gates (shudder)??
