Do we get a torrent of abuse for being dumb liberals? Maybe the conservatives aren't capable of thinking up questions to ask so it is a shock to the system?

I am a conservative and agree. I try to answer questions with honest intent not insults. I am by the way registered independant. I don't agree with both the main stream parties anymore. Politics is getting to be a headache. Why would someone spend millions of there own money for a job that pays a few hundred thousand a year (can we say CORRUPTION).

I'm a staunch conservative (note I didn't say "Republican!" I am, but the two terms are NOTsynonymous.) I'm going to take a little offense of your comments, but give you an intellegent answer anyway.

I try to look at both sides of every issue, but, human nature being what it is, I don't sometimes succeed. That being said and acknowledged, let me say this...if I don't have a clear answer on an issue, I will {usually} try keep my mouth shut and my pen silent until I know enough facts to form a valid opinion.

Any person, Liberal or Conservative, who jumps to conclusions, spewes stereotypes and just foments outright hatred, is an idiot no longer deserving of honest intellectual consideration. I, as a conservative, can be persuaded on occassion, to see, if not actually accept, an oppossing viewpoint. The main problem I have is that most Liberals whom I've met cannot or will not extend to me the same courtesy. THAT is when the lines of communication become severed.

God gave us two ears and only one mouth to let us know that it is twice as important to listen than it is to speak. Do your research, listen carefully without being judgmental, and I guarantee that you won't be perceived as a moron You may not be liked, but you will be respected.

Since this forum is all inclusive, you must put up with the opinions and rants of the peanut gallery. If your questions take serious thought to answer, the peanut gallery will eventually tire of you and ignore your postings altogether.
For the most part, the peanut gallery ignores questions that will require their brains to exhaust in excess of 1 calorie of carbohydrates, or takes more than 5 seconds to answer, which interrupts their point gaining process.
For the most part, there are a great number of liberals and conservatives who express open dialog on this site with great respect toward one another.
You might consider, however, refraining from disparaging remarks as in the close your question. That remark just indicates you are simply another of the horde of nincompoops that visit this forum.

I'm not going to entertain the line that conservatives are stupid. Far from it - there are very thoughtful conservatives in the world, who have come to their conclusions by careful study.

The reason on Yahoo and other places is that it is those on the extremes of both sides who take the time to write controversial questions and answers. They're also the same people who spend time on web polls. They're certainly the same people who also spend time going to primaries, volunteering for candidates, running grassroots organizations, etc.

That's no fault of the centrist people - their priorities lay elsewhere.

Basically, the politics section Y! answers is in no way shape or form a cross section of american politics - just the extreme fringes. This true across the board - and in my mind, there's no way for healthy debate to occur.

Personally, I'm weaning myself off of these types of questions, solely because each side claims the other sides' answers are bogus, the news sources are invalid, and that one side is more guilty of corruption than the other, and voting best answers reinforces and rewards those types of questions and answers.

It can't be helped.

For example, you see on tv those protesters outside of abortion clinics degrading people who enter and leave. Who's agenda does that progress? However, the most successful of those types of missions are the ones quietly exercised in the confines of the church, where quiet discussion is held. And the reverse is true, too. Abortion clinics are somber, and great caution is taken by all parties to exercise one's right under law.

In some places, "love the sinner, hate the sin" is still be taught and practiced. It's just not here. Here, hating the sinner is just as important as hating the sin, if not moreso.

As for myself, I believe quiet debate without name calling is the only way to solve problems. I find it disingenous for either side for claiming to know how to better a nation when there is hatred for members of that very nation. For every person who claims that killing or violence against a person they don't agree with is the answer, the more I'm convinced that they don't understand the true greatness upon this nation was founded.

We have only one world, and we all share one space, and we have only one life. It would be nice to traverse it in peace.

"Maybe the conservatives aren't capable of thinking questions to ask..."

I think I see your problem. Surprisingly enough, most people don't react well to insults. I know, I know - horribly rude of them, but there you go.

I couldn't agree more with you. I have asked many questions that get less than ten answers. I sure don't understand it with so many people complaining about stupid questions and name calling. I'm starting to think there are really very few people who care about anything other than being ignorant and obnoxious.

I recently received abuse for asking a valid question from a conservative POV...

So your point is mute.

Plenty of Conservatives ask intelligent questions on YA. Dems always answer with "Bush is a monkey!" or "Cuntservative are stupid!" Give me a break!

Why would you ask a question that you know cannot be answered? Aren't you just trolling for conservowackos?
