I will be out of the office for about 2 1/2 weeks. A new addition to my group, who happens to be a friend, has volunteered to cover for me. The problem is that I hold a very technical position, and my friend has only 2 weeks with the team, and the position. Should I revise my plans and have a more experienced coworker fill-in for me, or is it okay for me to support my friend and let him learn while handling the issues that I would normally encounter?

I think your friend will master the fry machine quite nicely. Don't worry.

Try to take care of any really difficult items before you leave. Will you be accessible by phone if something major comes up while you're gone? That's a good idea if it's feasible.

when you get back get ready to do double the work to fix his "the inexperienced worker/friend" coworkers mistakes.and if your friend dosent support ur decision to find a more experienced co worker or help her or train her (might take ur job..it happens) then that isnt rly ur friend

My first reaction is to have the most experienced person fill in for you.
