That's a fun question.

I think the teams I'd like to see would be the 86 Mets and the 98 Yankees.

Yes, I'm a Met fan, but to be honest, I think that those two teams had the best balance of hitting and pitching of any teams during the last 50 years.

So many great players on both sides, most of them at or near their peaks.

The '61 Yankees would get destroyed by either of these teams. Even though they set a single-season HR record with 240, not broken until the souped-up '90s, the 61 Yankees didn't even lead the AL in runs scored ... because their top two batters, Bobby Richardson (80 runs) and Tony Kubek (84 runs), never got on base, and scored less than 90 runs apiece, despite the phenomenal power coming up behind them. And they weren't part time/platoon players either. Kubek played 153 games, Richardson played all 162.

The Yankees of the late 30s would be a great match for either of these teams as well.

I loved watching the Big Red Machine in the 70s, but that team just had no pitching... great defense, great offense though.

My dream series would be the 1927 ( Murdere's Row ) 110-54 Yankees vs. the 1961 ( Mantle & Maris ) 109-53 Yankees.
Since that is not possible I will have to settle for the 1996 Yankees vs.1986 Mets. Subway Series all the way.

I can't answer this following the rules soooo...

1975 Reds VS 1961 Yankees
1965 Dodgers VS 1984 Tigers
1927 Yankees VS 1962 Mets (that would be a great game to go to, lots of souvenirs in the stands)
1998 Yankees VS 2004 Red Sox

Cardinals and Yankees always have interesting WS battles. The Cardinals and Yankees have met in the WS 5 times and the Cardinals have won 3 I believe. The Cardinals and Cubs have a good rivalry, but I'm not sure how close it would be if you look at all-time statistics.

1967 St. Louis Cardinals vs. 1927 New York Yankees

Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, Orlando Cepeda, Lou Brock against Murderers Row.

I'd say any Cards vs. Yanks Series because really in terms of championships we have TWO very storied franchises that both respectively have the 1st and 2nd amount of World Championships under their belts...

1934 Pittsburgh Crawfords vs. 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates. I'd love to see Honus Wagner batting against Satchel Paige.
