To shop for strictly organic foods is a ripoff. I worked for Whole Foods market and ate everything. If there is anything you want to buy, just keep it to produce. Anything else is just a ripoff.

Not at all.

I purchase most of my veggies (in season) from a local organic farm. Yes, they are a bit more expensive. However, in return I get a selection of heirloom and unusual varieties of veggies that have much more flavor than the hothouse grown mass produced varieties in your local mega mart. Additionally I can be sure that I am not ingesting trace amounts of poison used to kill critters. However, most importantly, they are grown in an environmentally sustainable way, and this IMHO is worth paying a couple of extra bucks for.

Only if it's sold as organic but not really organic. Then it's a rip off. Now that normal grocery stores carry organic, I try to buy it as much as I can. I just feel better about it because I know the info behind it. I just wish genetically modified foods would be banned.

I think there is a disproportionate ratio between retail cost and production cost.

I'm sorry I can't provide a source, but I recall reading that in order to label food as "organic," only certain minimum requirements have to be met. Or eggs from "cage free" hens actually come from hens that are cage free for a few minutes a day.

Of course it is. Organic food is no healthier, nor is in any more free of contaminants than other foods. It's just clever marketing to gullible people.

If you think that organic food is better for you, then you will pay more for it. The companies know that, it just doesn't have pesticides and grow fast chemicals in it. Its not speed-grown.

If I could conveniently purchase organic and "natural" products, I would do so. But since they are not widely available, I don't see any use in using them sporadically.

No...think of all the all the hormone added to things like milk...that makes everyone gain wait (including the cow). Think of all the pesticides we ingest and medicines, etc..

The effects of these things are still unknown!

Yeehaw! After I stop laughing.....of course it is! They certify it, so what? You can put anything on a label. It's already proven there aren't any benefits. Supposed to satisfy the "tree huggers" that it wasn't grown by damaging earth.
