I'm going to be travelling Europe this upcoming summer and would like to know where I should start off, preferably the cheapest country to fly to so that way I have more money to travel and shop once I'm in Europe. Also, will I need visa's or anything extra other than my passport once I'm in the European Union and travel from country to country? Thankssss in advance!

When I went I started in Amsterdam, it's central to most of the places you will go if you're doing the whirlwind of all of Europe. You can Eurail anywhere pretty much from Amsterdam. The suggestion to fly into Eastern Europe isn't a bad idea, it might be cheaper, because everything there is, try Budapest, Hungary. You will be able to use your Eurail from there. You won't need anything other than a passport if you're staying in the EU countries.

My first question is what languages do you speak? If you are French bi-lingual I would start in Paris and go from there by bus. Train is much more expensive. Most of the people in Eastern Europe do not speak English...and most Spaniards don't either. I found Netherlands, Portugal,Italy and France to have the most english speakers. For lodging I would recommend hostals if you are under 30, you meet people your own age and get tips from them. Also I recommend planning as much as possible over the internet. When we visited Rome we found out the museums we wanted to visit had to be booked in advance, some of that happens in Florence too.
As for time to travel, if you could leave in March or April your airfare will be much less than if you go in June or July.

Anywhere in Eastern Europe. Not many people visit there. Places like:
Russia
Poland
Lithuania
Romania
Yugolsavia
Ukraine
Hungary
Albania
Bosnia
etcetera!

I love Eastern Europe. It's like nothing you've seen before. It's like being in an alternate universe. I don't know how to explain. When I visit my family in Mosow, and I'm in those empty allies at night...oh it's the best feeling. Good Luck!
