People with high IQs have simply passed the IQ test with a high score. It doesn't mean that they're "smart", they just know how to answer complicated questions. They might not know about other things in life, however. Having a high IQ doesn't necessarily mean that they're smarter than someone with a low IQ.
I hope this answers your question! :)

Thankfully, we are all different.
We each have a unique set of mental strengths and weaknesses. The human brain is far too complex to summerise with such a simple test score. Imagine if we judged sporting ability on some sort of SQ test, where 5 areas of sporting prowess are tested. These tests might be running speed, weight lifting and so on. My guess is that our top sports stars would not do all that well on such a test. Tiger woods might be classifed as sportingly challenged.
The really smart people develop an awareness of their own intellectual strengths and weekness, and try to understand those of others. That way they can do what really seperates humans from apes -trade.

Some of this is simply semantics, but my take on this is that people with high IQs have a greater aptititude to learn how to be smart. Also, there are different sorts of "IQs". Some people are really quick to learn math and others learn the art of relationships more easily.
We all have to do the best with whatever we were born with. I have met some really DUMB geniouses in my life, and heards some really insightful comments from persons considered to be on the dull side.

First you need to define the term "smart".
People who score well on the Stanford-Binet IQ test are good at taking the Stanford-Binet IQ test. It tests five areas; Fluid Reasoning, Knowledge, Quantitative Reasoning, Visual-Spatial Processing, and Working Memory.
Although recent iterations of the Stanford-Binet try to compensate for conditions that would limit the ability of the subject to respond accurately, (e.g. deafness, limited English), there is some controversy still about the validity of the test. Many still feel that it is biased for the white, middle class.

Not necessarily. Having a high IQ simply means that you did well on a high school IQ test. It could be that you were having an off day that you scored lower, or you don't test as well. Just because a handful of kids score high on IQ tests, maybe because of luck, doesn't mean they're smarter than their peers.
Also, people with very high IQs may have no common sense whatsoever, making people believe they are rather dull.

Not necessarily. People with high IQs are good at solving certain kinds of problems. However, the problems that are selected for IQ tests are biased. They are based on notions of education and psychological development that are largely derived from white, middle-class models. IQ tests are one of psychology's less dinstinguised contributions to race-class ideology in the United States, as they have been instrumental in perpetuating the idea that impoverished people and racial minorities are somehow less intelligent than the "average" white middle-class person.

I've noticed a trend in people with high IQs, what they have for intelligence, they lack being smart. People with common sense tend to have lower IQs, but are more capable of day to day activities. Meanwhile people with high IQs tend to lack the ability to manage their lives in an organized manner. I guess it depends on your definition of smart, and my definition of organized.
What I have stated is by no means a fact, but simply and observation, and it certainly is not universal.

HELLO!
No, it just mean they read a lot and have a lot of knowledge in general. Some of these people that have high IQ don't even know enough to come out of the rain when it's rain out. They have no common sense. They don't even know which way to turn a door knob to open a door. They're smart okay but too smart.

Depends on what you mean by "smart". I know some people with high IQ's who are very "book smart" - they know a lot of facts, but not very much about life in general. They sometimes even lack the common sense that most of us average folk have!

They're what you call "book smart." They're intelligent, but they're really not any smarter then anyone else when you get right down to it. There is "Book smart" and there's "Street smart." A lot of people who are book smart lack common sense on a lot of things. Have you ever known someone who could ace a test in a subject that you can't even pronounce, but you wonder if they know how to come in out of the rain?
