If you are refferring to computers it is anothe label for a part of your main disc. such as drive c, d , e

A single hard drive can be divided into partitions, which makes it show up as more than one disk (totalling its actual size). There are "primary" and "extended" partitions, though since WindowsXP, which lets you have more than one primary, extended partitions have become a lot less useful.

If you have two partitions on your HD, the second one is the extended partition.
